My Favorite Skin Care Brands
I try not to over complicate my skincare routine as I think we are oversold this idea that we need a million products to have good skin and for someone with dry to normal skin, I believe simplicity is the key to great skin. Hot Take! I also do not believe you have to repetitively stick to your skin care routine. There are some nights I do not put eye cream, and some nights where I do not put moisturizer on, or even use toner before putting on my moisturizer. And guess what? THAT’S OK!
What some might not believe is that our the skin barrier on our face sometimes needs a rest, and if we are constantly layering a bunch of products on our face every day, that means we are rarely giving it a natural cycle to rejuvenate itself. I know Capitalism has sold us on this idea that we need to have a solid skincare routine, and all the products that go with it, but what these big brands won’t tell (but your Dermatologist might), is that you do not need even half the stuff we are being sold today. If you are constantly removing the dead skin cells from washing your face every day, you are also probably removing good skin cells that actually help protect your skin from pollution, dirt, and other bacteria that would love to live on your face.
But enough of that, let me share with you all the 5 products I have simplified my routine down to, and am finally glad I can be a more sustainable receptive buyer. The planet loves loyalty and thanks you for it as well :).
Here are my top 5 favorite products:
1 — Cleanser
Fenty Skin, TOTAL CLEANS'R REMOVE-IT-ALL CLEANSER
I love Fenty Skin’s Cleanser for a number of reasons, my biggest one being the texture of the product. I have used hundreds of cleansers and the one thing that remains true for all is that the texture of the cleanser matters. Out of all the other skincare products you’ll use in your life, your cleanser is probably the most important because it is what you will use to wipe off residual makeup, remove any dead skin and make your face feel refreshed and rejuvenated. The texture is super creamy and soft, without it feeling sticky. Super plush and lathers up just enough to make you feel like it’s doing its job, haha.
Fenty Skin’s Cleanser by far is the best I have tried, and I am not just saying that because I am a huge fan of Rihanna. I think early-on, with the products she crafted, she made sure this one in particular (as well as the travel pack that includes the toner and moisturizer), were of TOP quality, and the formula remains so till this day. Another thing I love about the product is that a little also goes a LONG way. I literally use a pea size amount and the minute it touches my face (which is already wet from rinsing beforehand), it melts on perfectly and with pretty decent coverage. The product is by far worth every single penny.
Another thing I love about the Cleanser is the smell! Another thing Rihanna never misses on is the scent of her products. It smells like tropical fruits and fresh flowers, gardenias maybe, without it being overwhelming of course. I also love that it is a “clean” product and you can tell she put a lot of thought and love in delivering this type of product to her audience, we love an intentional babe.
Additionally here are 3 other things I LOVE about it:
Ginkgo Biloba is in the formula, which helps balance pores and fight shine long after you’ve rinsed your face, which is also where that refreshed and tight skin feeling comes from once you dry your face.
Antioxidant-packed Barbados Cherry helps revitalize skin, and of course I love that fact that she uses fruits from her home country, such a beautiful homage.
Mineral-rich Quince fruit and Coconut-derived cleansers comfort and refresh skin giving it that beautiful natural shine after you’ve rinsed your face.
Overall, I rate this product 10/10 because it hits all my purchase requirements without breaking the bank. And for those of you girlies who cry, “I have sensitive skin, I can’t use anything with fragrance,” our girl RiRi’s got your back, she made a “Fragrance-Free” version as well. And this is why we love her, haha. Lastly, from a sustainability perspective she hit reducing end-consumer plastic as well as not using 100% virgin plastic/materials.
